LAHORE: The Punjab government has formally rolled out a modern, evidence-based traffic challan system across the province, introducing a streamlined mechanism under which every traffic challan will now be issued with complete supporting evidence, including video and photographic proof.
Announcing the development, the Traffic Police spokesperson said that in the event of a traffic violation, citizens will receive an alert SMS on 8070. The message will include a link to the evidentiary material related to the incident, enabling the affected citizen to view the violation’s video and photos directly through the provided link.
The spokesperson further stated that challans will be issued with evidence throughout Punjab via the Traffic Police One App.
The initiative, implemented on the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, is aimed at enhancing transparency, fairness, and convenience in the challan process by ensuring that enforcement is backed by clear and verifiable documentation.
DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir said the evidence-based system is expected to reduce unnecessary disputes between citizens and traffic police personnel, saving time for both parties.
He added that the approach would also support effective and evidence-based legal action against individuals who fail to pay the challan.
Nazir emphasized that the introduction of modern technology is strengthening public-facing services of the Traffic Police, reiterating that prompt, transparent, and fair justice is a core foundation for a developed and balanced society.
