The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood alert for the Chenab, Jhelum and Ravi rivers, along with their associated streams and drains, from July 20 to 24.
According to the PDMA, low to high-level flooding is expected in the Chenab River at Marala, while increased water flows are also feared in the Ravi, Basantar, Deg, Aik, Palkhu, Bhimber, Hailsi and Dora streams.
The authority has also warned of possible flash flooding in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Okara, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar and Rawalpindi divisions.
The PDMA has directed all commissioners, deputy commissioners, WASA, Rescue 1122 and relevant departments to remain on high alert and ensure that emergency arrangements are fully in place.
PDMA Director General Umar Abbas Mela has instructed authorities to ensure the timely evacuation of residents living in low-lying and riverbank areas, provide essential facilities at flood relief camps, and urged citizens to follow precautionary measures.
