After a meeting with former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in a “controlled environment,” PTI announced on Sunday that they were prepared for a third round of talks with the government to ease political tensions in the country.
Negotiations between the government and PTI began in late December with the goal of reducing political unrest.
However, despite several weeks of talks, little progress has been made on key issues, including the formation of a judicial commission and the release of PTI prisoners.
Speaking to the media after his meeting with Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, accompanied by PTI leaders Omer Ayub and Asad Qaiser, the SIC chairman confirmed that PTI’s negotiation committee would inform the government of their readiness for another round of discussions.
He emphasized that the government should address the opposition’s demand for the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26. “Even after several weeks, there has been no progress in the negotiations,” he said.
“There must be progress in the third meeting,” he added, noting that the details of the judicial commission would be a key topic of discussion in the upcoming session.
