ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday filed a petition in the Supreme Court, requesting investigation of the PMO’s leaked audio regarding PTI MNAs’ resignation from the National Assembly, and seeking criminal charges against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his ministers for devising a “criminal conspiracy”.
The country has been horrified by a slew of audio leaks from meetings held at the PM House over the past few months, and concerns have been raised about the PMO’s cyber security.
PTI said in the petition that incumbent prime minister and his cabinet members can be heard discussing a heinous strategy to outplay the petitioner from the parliamentary politics in most illegal, unlawful and objectionable manner.
According to the petition, the entire conversation is focused on a “criminal strategy/conspiracy” to harm and target the party by accepting the resignations that PTI’s MNAs submitted on April 11 in pieces.
The prime minister acknowledged the “actuality and existence” of the aforementioned audio leaks during a news conference on Tuesday, PTI said.
The petition noted that both Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan and Information Minister Maryum Aurangzeb have already acknowledged the truth of the audio leaks.
The National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf, according to the PTI, helped the prime minister and cabinet members break their oath of office and completely disregard the law and the constitution.
The petition stated that “the current federal government’s admission calls for strong action against the prime minister and the federal ministers.”
Last week, Prime Minister House’s security was being called into question in the wake several audio tapes featuring several ministers of the ruling coalition surfaced.
One of the audios apparently shows a discussion about the resignations of PTI legislators from the lower house of parliament involving the prime minister, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Law Minister Azam Tarar, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and former NA speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
In it, the PML-N leaders can be allegedly heard expressing their opinions over PTI’s resignations. They are also talking about London’s permission to accept the resignations.
Another leaked recording that supposedly featured Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif went viral on social media, containing discussion regarding PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz’s request for an Indian power plant to be imported for her son-in-law.
A voice, purported to be that of Prime Minister Sharif, can be heard in the longer than two-minute audio tape that PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry posted on Twitter asking him to help Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Raheel with the import of machinery for a power plant from India.
Another audio purports to show a discussion concerning Miftah, who has apparently come under fire inside the party for implementing strict economic policies, between PML-N Vice President Maryam and the premier.
“He doesn’t take responsibility, says strange things on TV which people make fun of him for… he doesn’t know what he is doing,” the voice said to be Maryam’s says in the alleged audio.
The voice purported to be PM Shehbaz’s is heard as saying “He clearly cut corners.”
“Uncle, he doesn’t know what he is doing,” Maryam purportedly says, as she wishes for the return of PML-N stalwart Ishaq Dar.
Moreover, Maryam Nawaz allegedly asked the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to scrap the PTI’s initiated health care program in another leaked audio.
Maryam Nawaz pressed for the termination of the health insurance program started by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration, which providing free medical care to millions of Pakistanis.
She allegedly advised Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, to stop providing health cards by publicly stating that there was a funding shortfall.
Maryam was heard claiming that Imran Khan, the PTI leader and former prime minister, has only succeeded in implementing the health card scheme. PM Sharif allegedly replied that it wouldn’t be a huge deal.
