The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) negotiation committee is set to meet with the party’s founder, Imran Khan, in Adiala Jail today at 2 PM to update him on the progress of the ongoing talks with the government.
The update follows the first round of high-stakes negotiations on December 23, with the next meeting scheduled for January 2. During this upcoming session, PTI will present its charter of demands, and the government is expected to respond.
Speaking outside Adiala Jail yesterday, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Khan stated that Imran Khan has requested a clear timeline for the negotiations and emphasized the need for swift progress, as PTI’s demands are genuine.
The initial round of negotiations took place in Islamabad, with both parties agreeing to reconvene on January 2. During the talks, PTI representatives called for the release of all prisoners, including Imran Khan.
The government negotiation team included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, Rana Sanaullah, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Syed Naveed Qamar, Abdul Aleem Khan, and Dr. Farooq Sattar. The PTI committee was represented by Asad Qaiser, Raja Nasir Abbas, and Sahibzada Hamid Raza. Four members of the PTI committee were absent during the first session due to legal issues or being out of the country.
Following the meeting, both sides expressed positive sentiments, acknowledging the importance of dialogue in resolving the ongoing political issues. The PTI committee will submit its charter of demands in writing at the next session, while today’s meeting is expected to further clarify the opposition’s position.
The dialogue also included a moment to honor the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the fight against terrorism, reinforcing the commitment to stand united in the nation’s efforts to eliminate terrorism.
The committee members expressed gratitude to Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for his role in initiating the dialogue process.
