ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Inaf (PTI) and Jamat-e-Islami (JI) have approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC), challenging the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ‘s verdict of postponing local government elections.
The ECP, it may be recalled, on Tuesday had announced postponing local government elections in the federal capital territory for second time. The polls were scheduled for December 31.

In a short order released to media, the ECP said “keeping in view the legal provisions & the judgement of the Hon’ble High Court, Islamabad dated 23/12/2022 regarding the subject matter. Local Government Election in ICT scheduled to be held on 31/12/2022 is hereby postponed for the time being.

PTI leader Ali Nawaz Awan on Wednesday approached the IHC and filed petition, challenging the yesterday’s ECP verdict. Secretary Cabinet, Interior Secretary and the ECP have been made respondents in his petition.
PTI’s Ali Nawaz Awan has prayed to the IHC to declare the ECP verdict as null and void.
