KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) kicked off the new trading week with a strong bullish rally on Monday, as broad-based buying lifted the benchmark KSE-100 Index by more than 2,700 points in the opening session, extending the positive momentum witnessed at the close of last week.

Within the first hour of trading, the KSE-100 Index soared 2,742.88 points (1.53%) to 178,836.99, reflecting robust investor confidence across key sectors.

The rally was broad-based, with 305 stocks advancing against only 32 decliners, while 226 issues remained unchanged, indicating overwhelming buying interest throughout the market.

Trading activity also remained healthy in the early session, with more than 33.58 million shares changing hands in 15,497 transactions, generating a turnover of over Rs1.82 billion.

The bullish sentiment was mirrored across the broader market. The All Share Index gained 1,518.36 points (1.41%) to 108,049.24, while the KSE-30 Index climbed 888.61 points (1.67%). The KMI-30 advanced 4,437.95 points (1.76%), and the BKTI rose 768.66 points (1.50%), highlighting widespread buying across sectors.

Monday’s strong start follows a positive previous week in which the benchmark KSE-100 Index ended 5,072 points higher at 176,094, despite experiencing sharp swings during the week.

The market traded within a 4,510-point range, touching an intraweek high of 179,123 and a low of 174,612, while total market capitalisation increased by Rs477 billion to Rs19.755 trillion.

Investor sentiment also received a boost from the return of foreign portfolio investment. During July 2026, foreign investors turned net buyers for the first time in 23 months, injecting $34.4 million into the PSX after prolonged capital outflows, with the banking and exploration sectors attracting the bulk of overseas investment.

Market participants said Monday’s rally reflected continued optimism over Pakistan’s improving macroeconomic outlook, renewed foreign investor interest and sustained institutional buying in blue-chip stocks.

Analysts, however, cautioned that the market could remain volatile during the week as investors monitor corporate earnings, economic indicators and any fresh policy announcements.

If sustained throughout the session, Monday’s rally would place the benchmark KSE-100 Index within striking distance of reclaiming the 179,000-point level, reinforcing the market’s positive momentum at the start of the new trading week.
