PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said the provision of low-cost housing facilities to poor segments of society was among the top priorities of the government.
The prime minister was addressing at the inauguration ceremony of the newly-constructed 2,056 residential flats and Labour Complex projects completed at a cost of Rs5.93 billion for industrial workers under PM Naya Pakistan Housing Program at Regi Lalma as a chief guest.
He congratulated the KP Government for completing the long-awaited 2,506 residential flats for families of industrial workers and labor complex projects at Regi Lalma.
Prime Minister Imran reiterated that the government’s job is to uplift the poor and provide them with basic necessities, noting that this was the model of the State of Madinah.
The PM said Allah Almighty had given limitless blessings on the people of Riyast-e-Madinah because they severely followed the Seerah of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).
Pakistan could achieve extraordinary success in every field of life by severely adhering to the principles that formed the foundation of Riyast-e-Madinah which brought helpful revolution, leading to the appearance of Muslims in the globe, he observed.
Pakistan had full potential to become a developed country by subjugating the corrupt elements, the PM said, adding that the corrupt mafia again joined hands to defend their rob and corruption “but I would not give them any relaxation, come what may,” he said, adding the nation had knowledge of some corrupt elements that escaped to London in a bid to protect themselves.
Imran Khan said rule of law, investment in human resources and people’s socio-economic development, was essential to make sure robust progress and steady economic development in the country. The developed countries had made robust progress due to supremacy of rule of law and investment for developing human resources, he said.
The government was striving for socio-economic empowerment of the downtrodden and poor segment of the society, he said, adding that the government had launched the landmark Universal Sehat Insurance Programme to provide free medical services to people.
KP was the first province that launched a flagship project of a universal health coverage program under which it’s every resident, he lauded and said having a Computerized National ID Card, could avail free treatment up to Rs one million in any part of the country.
The Prime Minister said the Sehat Card Plus program has brought about a revolution in the health sector in the province, by benefiting the large number of people who could not afford expensive treatment.
He said banks have been instructed to give loans for the construction of houses to people on easy terms and conditions that would also bolster the construction industry and provide poor, and common people with opportunities to change their own destiny.
Imran Khan said he would order Naya Pakistan Housing Authority to make a partnership with the KP Government for the utilization of empty and unproductive lands in the province for the construction of low-cost housing units for the poor segment of the society.
Mohmand Dam would irrigate 17,000 acres of new lands in Peshawar, generate 800 MW hydel electricity besides providing 300 million gallons of water to Peshawar, he informed.
“This is a decade of dams in the country where dozen new dams including gigantic Mohmand and Diamir Basha dams would be completed by 2028,” the PM said, adding Mohmand Dam would be the first development project after over 49 years to be completed by his government,” he added.
Pakistan was created to set an example for other Muslim states but we have deviated from our goal, he lamented. “Through this housing scheme, we have decided to build houses for those who cannot afford it,” he said.
