Four people lost their lives during violent clashes in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday, November 24, 2024, as a survey was conducted at the Shah Jami Mosque, which the local Muslim community believes is a prelude to demolition.
An agitated crowd set several vehicles on fire, prompting police to use tear gas and baton charges to regain control.Reacting to the incident, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi strongly condemned the actions of the Uttar Pradesh police and called for an impartial investigation into the matter.
According to a report by Indian media (News 18) on Monday, Owaisi took to Twitter to express his anguish, quoting poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz:
تجھ کو کتنوں کا لہو چاہیئے اے ارض وطن
“How much blood do you need, O land of my ancestors,
جو ترے عارض بے رنگ کو گلنار کریں
to make your pallor bloom?
کتنی آہوں سے کلیجہ ترا ٹھنڈا ہوگا
How many sighs will cool your insatiable heart?
کتنے آنسو ترے صحراؤں کو گل زار کریں
How many tears will water your deserts into gardens?”
He further criticized the police for firing at those trying to maintain peace in Sambhal, resulting in the deaths of three young men. Owaisi wrote, “I strongly condemn the UP Police’s firing on those striving for peace. I pray to Allah for the forgiveness of the departed souls and strength for their families to bear this loss.”
The AIMIM leader also demanded a thorough, unbiased investigation into the incident and urged strict action against the responsible officers.
