KARACHI: Hundreds of protesters today (Sunday) attacked Bahria Town Karachi and set fire to several shops and vehicles, according to the police and residents.
According to details, a large number of protesters were staging a sit-in outside the housing society off the Super Highway. They were protesting what they say their forceful eviction from their ancestral lands in the vicinity.
A heavy contingent of police was on the spot to deal with any untoward situation, while the Bahria Town management sealed the entrance with containers. However, the protesters breached the barricaded gate and entered the housing society.
An eyewitness claimed that the protesters torched a Suzuki car showroom and a fast food joint. The protesters also looted at least two ATMs, another eyewitness claimed. Soon after the incident was reported, Twitter was flooded with videos of the protests.

On May 23, Sindhi nationalist parties and groups resolved to launch a joint drive from the platform of the Sindh Action Committee (SAC) to foil the “conspiracy” to convert Sindhis into a minority within their own province.
They chalked out a comprehensive strategy to counter the “threat to Sindhis’ lands and villages from land-grabbing” in the name of megaprojects being executed by Bahria Town Karachi (BTK), Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and other such entities.
Speaking at a press conference in Jamshoro, Sindh nationalist parties announced that a sit-in would be held outside BTK’s main gate on June 6 to launch a “political, diplomatic and judicial struggle to foil the conspiracy”.
