Fridays have special importance in Pakistan’s political history, from the disqualifications of Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan, there are many developments that took on Fridays. Yesterday, Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar called on President Dr Arif Alvi at Aiwan-e-Sadr, in a move to defuse the tensions between the government and PTI.
According to the official statement issued by the Presidency after the meeting, the finance minister briefed the president on the overall economic and financial outlook of the country — which has been gloomy after the catastrophic floods.
A statement from the President’s Secretariat mentioned that the finance czar also briefed the president on various steps taken by the government to provide relief to the people, especially to the unprivileged population of underserved areas of the country and the flood affectees.
Though the official statement says that the meeting only discussed the economic situation of the country but the sources having knowledge of the matter claim that the President has shown his consent to sign the PM’s advice for appointing new Army Chief.
Media reports claimed that neither PTI as a party nor President would create any hurdle in the way of the appointment of a new Army Chief.
He also reportedly said that the appointment of Army Chief was PM’s prerogative, and he would simply sign the summary whenever sent to him.
The meeting between the Finance Minister and the President of Pakistan is a welcome development that will help in cooling down the political temperature of the country, especially after the attack on the former prime minister Imran Khan in Wazirabad during the rally.
Imran Khan, in the past, had been saying that he has authorized President Alvi for talks if they were to be held. Good to see that political leaders trying to settle their issues at the table as there is no better solution to the problems than this.
