KARACHI: PPP Leader and Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has extended an offer to Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) to bring a mayor for Karachi together.
Speaking on a News program of private TV channel, Shah claimed that PPP has secured the majority in the LG polls, and the next Karachi mayor will belong to his political party. He urged JI to bring a mayor with PPP, stating that a unanimous decision would be beneficial for the city. Shah added that PPP wants to serve the areas after winning the LG polls.
According to political analysts, the offer made by Nasir Hussain Shah shows a willingness for PPP to work with other parties, however, there have also been accusations of rigging which marred the LG polls in Sindh, with both JI and PTI accusing PPP of foul play. The situation calls for a transparent and fair election process that represents the true voice of the people.
Earlier after the vote count, JI Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman accused PPP of rigging in the Local Government polls in Sindh. Speaking to the media outside Comprehensive High School, Rehman alleged that PPP repeated history by forgery.
He claimed that JI workers were subjected to violence all day and many of them were arrested on PPP’s instructions. He further claimed that efforts were made to remove their polling agents, but their workers fought back. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had assured them that the correct results would be announced, but the “worst situation” in terms of rigging was in New Karachi UC 13 and 4.
Meanwhile, PTI leaders also accused PPP of rigging. Aftab Siddiqui stated that PPP cannot win without rigging, while MNA Islam Khan revealed that only 81 votes were cast on one booth, but 481 were counted from the same. Shah, however, denied any attempts to change the loyalties of LG representatives from other political parties but added that they cannot do anything if representatives of other parties support PPP.
