As 2024 nears its end, IMDb, the renowned platform for movies and TV show databases, has revealed the year’s most popular Indian film.
While audiences eagerly awaited the releases of Singham Again, Stree 2, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, a South Indian blockbuster stole the spotlight, claiming the crown as the year’s most popular Indian film.
IMDb released its list of the most loved Indian films of the year, highlighting audience preferences. Topping the list was Kalki 2898 AD, featuring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, as the most popular Indian film of 2024.
Following closely in second place was the sequel Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao. Junaid Khan’s Maharaja, which hit screens in June, secured the third spot.
Director Nag Ashwin expressed his delight at his film leading the IMDb list, stating, “Being celebrated as IMDb’s most popular Indian film of 2024 is truly amazing. This recognition reflects the immense love and support of our fans who embraced the film wholeheartedly. It’s a joy to see Kalki 2898 AD resonate with audiences of all ages worldwide.”
At a time when many Bollywood films struggled at the box office, Stree 2, led by a female protagonist, became a surprise hit, earning over Rs. 600 crore.
Similarly, despite facing controversies over its sensitive theme, Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan’s Maharaja managed to perform well and win hearts.
Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan’s Shaitan ranked fourth, while Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter secured the fifth position.
Out of the top 10 films, seven were Hindi films, accompanied by one each from Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam cinema. Telugu blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD led the list, Tamil film Maharaja claimed the third spot, and Malayalam’s Munjamal Boys ranked sixth.
The list also highlighted the audience’s fondness for sequels, with Stree 2 taking second place, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 at seventh, and Singham Again at ninth.
Raghav Juyal’s Kill ranked eighth, while Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies rounded off the list at the tenth spot.
An intriguing aspect of this year’s list is Deepika Padukone’s presence in three films: Fighter, Kalki 2898 AD, and Singham Again.
This list, based on genuine IMDb page views, was curated from Indian films released between January 1 and November 25, 2024, with an average IMDb user rating of 5 or above.
However, the ranking could shift after the inclusion of Pushpa 2, starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, which was released on December 5, 2024. The film is scaling new heights of success and smashing records daily.
