KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Karachi Division has suspended the membership of Haider Umrani, a party candidate who contested the recent elections from Sindh Assembly constituency PS-100.
The suspension comes amid allegations of anti-party activities on social media and his recent arrest in connection with a call center scam.
According to official sources, the decision to suspend Umrani was made following accusations of his involvement in activities deemed detrimental to the party’s reputation. PPP Karachi Division General Secretary Rauf Ahmed Nagori issued the suspension notification, citing violations of party discipline and ethical standards.
Umrani had represented the PPP in the provincial elections from PS-100, a constituency in Sindh, but his political career has now been overshadowed by legal troubles.
In mid-July, it may be recalled, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) conducted a raid in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi. During the operation, officers in three vehicles stormed a hotel and detained Haider Umrani. He was accused of operating a call center involved in online financial scams, defrauding numerous individuals through deceptive schemes.
