KARACHI: One of the key ruling coalition partner, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has strongly condemned the recent remarks made by former US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad against former President Asif Ali Zardari.

In a lengthy post on Twitter, Khalilzad called Zardari “Mr. Ten Percent” and denied the allegations made against him during an interview with a private TV channel. Khalilzad’s post also expressed concern about Pakistan’s triple crisis and suggested ways to tackle the issue.

In response to the statement, PPP spokesperson Shazia Marri issued a message defending Zardari’s reputation as a patriot who foiled Khalilzad’s ambitions by pushing terrorists out of Swat. Marri further criticized Khalilzad’s track record, stating that his figure is visible in every disaster in Afghanistan and that he has betrayed his own country much like Mir Jafar.

Ms Marri urged Khalilzad to refrain from making false and baseless accusations against Pakistani leaders and institutions and focus on working towards peace and stability in the region. The PPP strongly stands by its leader, Asif Ali Zardari, and condemns any attempts to malign his reputation.
