KARACHI: Several parts of Karachi reported massive electricity outages on Saturday as the power utility rushed to address the crisis.
The power supply to 25 grid stations has been suspended after a high-tension electricity supply line tripped The areas that faced the power outage include New Karachi, Saddar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Buffer Zone, Shadman, Sir Syed Town, Nagan Chowrangi, FB Area, and North Nazimabad.
Karachi Electric (KE), the power utility company responsible for the city’s electricity, said it had received reports of outages and was “urgently looking” into them.
“Interruption in power supply are being reported from some parts of the city. We are urgently looking into this,” it said in a brief statement on Twitter.

The Ministry of Energy said that the supply of electricity to Karachi was affected because of tripping in Northern-Karachi Interconnections (NKI) transmission lines Baldia 1 and 2.
“The system in the rest of the country is completely normal. NTDC (National Transmission and Despatch Company) and KE officials are busy restoring the electricity supply. The causes of tripping are also being investigated,” it added.
Several residents shared messages social media reported outages in their areas as temperatures soared in the metropolis on the weekend.
MQM-P Senator Faisal Subzwari said “half of Karachi” was facing the power breakdown and called on the federal government to step up and offer relief.
“There must be reasons but people suffering in this weather consider them excuses. Fed Govt must act to provide relief,” he tweeted.
The last massive power breakdown took place less than five months ago which plunged the entire country into darkness including major urban centres such as Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore and Multan.
