RAWALPINDI: A police inspector was shot dead by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle near Kutchery Chowk in Rawalpindi last night.
Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Race Course, Mian Imran Abbas, was traveling with his wife and children in a car when two motorcycle riders attacked his car.
Inspector Imran Abbas left his house along with his family when two gunmen drove close to the driving seat of the car and shot one bullet aiming at his head and sped away. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Police said Inspector Imran Abbas was killed on the spot. He was shifted to a hospital where the doctors confirmed his death. Police said it was a targeted killing as the gunmen didn’t harm his wife and children. Civil Lines police and intelligence agencies reached the scene, cordoned off the area, and collected evidence for further investigation.
Rawalpindi CPO Ahsan Younas, SSP Investigations Rawalpindi Mohammad Faisal, SP Potohar Syed Ali, SP Kamran Hameed, and other senior police officers were present at the hospital.
Punjab Law Minister Mohammad Basharat Raja paid homage to the martyr and said that Inspector Imran Abbas was a very dutiful officer and always his services would always be remembered.
He called the aggrieved family and expressed his condolence and assured that those involved in the incident would be brought to the court of law and the affected family would be provided justice.
It is worth mentioning that his father, Mian Mohammad Abbas, also embraced martyrdom during a terrorist attack on Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf in front of Saddar Bairuni Police Station on December 25, 2003.
