KARACHI: Police on Thursday conducted a raid to arrest Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in-charge Raja Umar Khattab in a missing person’s case.
Advocate Syed Nadeem-ul-Haq had filed a petition on behalf of Iqbal Patel seeking action against the senior police officer. The division bench headed by Justice Nazar Akbar expressed immense displeasure over the proceedings and called for Khattab’s arrest.
Police sprang into action but could not arrest the senior police officer. The court also raised concerns over the failure to prevent an attack of the plaza of the petitioner and the failure to recover his brother Naeem Patel.
Upon reaching the direct, SSP East Investigation Junaid Shaikh instructed to arrested the CTD in-charge. Police reached Khattab’s office but could not arrest him as he was not present.
Yesterday, the division ordered action against an investigation officer for his failure to arrest the CTD officer nominated in the missing person’s case.
The court directed the inspector general of police and SSP Investigation to immediately suspend the investigation officer DSP Yousuf Jamal and initiate disciplinary proceedings against him.
Nadeem Patel is accused of allegedly facilitating the Karachi airport attack and was released on bail in 2017. His brother had move Sindh High Court seeking his whereabouts.
