KARACHI: Memon Goth police have arrested a gang of four for allegedly trying to steal copper wire from different areas of the city.
Police in Memon Goth, acting on a tip-off, arrested the accused along with the stolen power cables. The cables recovered from the accused are worth millions, sources said.
Police have also seized two vehicles used by the accused. The arrested accused have revealed stealing valuable power cables from different areas of the city. The group of accused was arrested for the first time.
Sources said the police recovered wire cutters and two pistols from the possession of the gang. Police have registered a case against the accused and started an investigation.
Earlier, the KESC police’s in-depth investigations into a series of theft incidents of copper wire at KESC substations across the city had revealed that the wire was being stolen in an organized and systematic manner.
The police established its information network and received a tip-off about a gang planning another theft at a substation in Defence. The KESC police intercepted the alleged accused on their way to the crime scene.
The arrested men were identified as gang leader Azizur Rehman alias Lalay, Mohammad Turyalay, Mohammad Saleem and Kaleem Hussain. Lalay had also been arrested previously on the same charges by the KESC police in the Sohrab Goth area.
