KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Chaudhry Tanveer has been arrested at Jinnah International Airport on Friday while attempting to flee abroad.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested Chaudhry Tanveer from the airport. The PML-N leader was wanted to Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in a land grabbing case.
After his arrest in Karachi, an ACE Rawalpindi team departed for Karachi to take custody. According to FIA officials, he will be handed over to the ACE upon their arrival in Karachi.
Earlier, a raid had also been conducted in Rawalpindi over his alleged involvement in land grabbing cases. The Anti-Corruption Establishment (Punjab) has raided Taveer’s residence but authorities failed to arrest him. At the time of the raid, the valima ceremony of Chaudhry Tanveer’s son was going on at his residence and the team was kept waiting.
A few days ago, Chaudhry Tanveer returned home from abroad after attending his son’s wedding. ACE Punjab said that Chaudhry Tanveer has illegally occupied government land and committed fraud. Punjab Anti-Corruption Department has registered a case against him for illegal possession an fraud and investigators want to probe him.
Former PML-N senator Chaudhry Tanveer is accused of occupying 45 kanals of government land. According to officials, the former senator built an illegal house and a plaza on the occupied land. Tanveer has been booked in an anti-corruption case. It may be recalled that in 2019, the FBR had filed a reference against him.
