ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken serious notice of ‘unserious behaviour’ of Special Assistant on Health Dr Zafar Mirza towards the top court’s queries in a suo-moto case related to the epidemic.
According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan has reprimanded his special assistant over the misdemeanors and failure to present the federal government’s efforts to control coronavirus epidemic in the Supreme Court.
Sources further claimed that prime minister said it was Dr Mirza’s responsibility to present a comprehensive report before the judges regarding the steps adopted to fight against COVID-19.
The federal government has always respected judiciary and honourable judges and no tolerance will be made over showing irresponsible attitude, PM added.
It is pertinent to mention here on April 13, in a suo-moto case Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed had expressed his displeasure over the performance of the federal government in handle the coronavirus pandemic.
During the hearing, the CJP had lashed out at the federal government and remarked, “There is an army of special assistants having authority the same as federal ministers.”
CJP also had remarked that five-question were asked from the government team but the team was unable to satisfy the court with even a single answer.
The CJP further remarked “That there is a lack of consensus when it comes to dealing with the virus to which the Attorney General replied, “It is happening because of the 18th amendment.”
During the hearing, the chief justice had questioned the credentials of the Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Health Dr Zafar Mirza and ordered the removal of the special assistant.
However, the attorney general said “Removing Zafar Mirza from his post at this point will not be suitable for the country as it will create more crises during the epidemic.”
