ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly denounced the banning of Eid prayer gatherings by authorities in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The prime minister telephoned Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Tanvir Ilyas and conveyed greetings to the people of the territory.
Moreover, he also condemned the ban on Eid prayer congregations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
He reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to continue extending political, moral and diplomatic support till the Kashmiri people got their right to self-determination. He also extended Eid greetings to the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
In Indian-held Kashmir, the biggest congregation was held at the Hazratbal Dargah in Srinagar. However, the authorities didn’t allow Eid prayers at the city’s grand mosque, Jamia Masjid in the old city. Two former chief ministers Abdullah and Omar Abdullah offered prayers at the Hazratbal Mosque.
An incident of stone-pelting took place in south Kashmir’s Anantnag soon after Eid prayers ended on Tuesday morning and some people pelted police with stones. There were elaborate security arrangements across the valley.
There were no prayers offered at Srinagar’s Eidgah where thousands of people used to converge for Eid prayers. the administration didn’t allow Eid prayers at Jamia Masjid or Grand Mosque in the old city, and the main entrance of the mosque was closed. Additional forces were deployed around the mosque.
