ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired the meeting of the federal cabinet on Friday and discussed the current political situation in the country and other matters of importance.
In another meeting, Inter-Service Intelligence Chief Lt General Nadeem Anjum called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and discussed the prevailing situation of the country and key security issues.
PM Imran Khan also held a meeting of PTI’s political committee attended by Pervez Khattak, Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, and Sheikh Rasheed. Hammad Azahar, Farrukh Habib, Shaukat Tarin, and Babar Awan were also present.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed later told reporters that he had advised Imran Khan that all PTI MNAs should submit resignations en masse to force fresh elections.
PM Imran Khan in a tweet a day earlier had announced to convene the meetings of his cabinet and the party after the Supreme Court gave a verdict on the ruling of the deputy speaker to dismiss the no-confidence motion and the subsequent dissolution of the National Assembly. The prime minister will also address the nation later in the evening as the government is exploring all options.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan restored the National Assembly after it declared the government’s decision to dissolve the assembly and NA Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri’s ruling against the Constitution.
The top court has ordered National Assembly Speaker Asad Qasier to summon the session on Saturday, April 9, and not later than 10:30am to allow the vote on the no-confidence motion against the prime minister.
Although the Opposition has welcomed the top court’s historic order, the government representatives have expressed their disapproval and termed the decision as “unfortunate” which would push the country towards further “political turmoil”.
