ISLAMABAD: The federal government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced to change the name of the 10 billion tree tsunami project launched during the PTI tenure.
According to the details, the PDM government has decided to change the name of the Ten Billion Trees Tsunami Programme to Green Pakistan. PTI’s proposal to close the project started by the previous government was rejected
During the next fiscal year 2023-24, the 10 billion tree project will be operational under the new name Green Pakistan Program. The proposal to allocate Rs 125 billion for the Ten Billion Trees Tsunami Programme in the new year budget is under consideration.

The government has estimated the cost of the Green Pakistan project at 26 billion 98 crores by June next year and 3 billion 90 crores in the next financial year. The Ten Billion Trees Tsunami Programme was launched by former prime minister Imran Khan in 2019.
It should be noted that earlier President Dr. Arif Alvi said that 1.81 billion saplings have been planted across the country till June under the Ten Billion Trees Tsunami Programme.
In his message to the nation on the launch of the National Monsoon Planting Campaign in August 2022, the President of the State, Dr. Arif Alvi, said that climate change and the increase in global temperature are causing the melting of glaciers and floods in different parts of the world.
