According to the details, after the consent of the telecom companies, the government has decided to block the phone SIM of those who do not submit tax returns from today. FBR meets PTAs and telecom companies, officials say SIMs will be blocked manually in small batches
FBR officials say that we have sent the details of 5000 non-filers whose SIMs will be blocked in the initial phase while warning messages have also been sent to the non-filers. The decision to block SIMs for non-submission of tax returns was made to ensure an increase in tax revenue.
What is Plan B?
Earlier, the government had given a green signal to FBR to implement Plan B against non-filers. In case SIMS is not stopped, the government has started considering the proposal to bring additional withholding tax.
According to the reports that came out yesterday, preparations for action against the non-filers were started after May 15. 2.5% additional tax may be levied on the SIM of non-filers if the SIM is not closed.
The government has started considering the collection of additional tax on every loading of non-filers. It was also proposed to levy additional tax on mobile and data load of non-filers, however, the decision to ban SIMs has been implemented today.
