KARACHI: Petrol pump owners have demanded that fuel prices be fixed on a monthly basis instead of a weekly review system, citing financial and administrative difficulties caused by frequent price changes.
According to the Petrol Pump Owners Association, the current system of weekly fuel price revisions is creating instability in business operations and making financial planning difficult.
The association said that repeated fluctuations in petrol prices are affecting business stability, while a monthly pricing mechanism would ensure consistency in the market.
It added that monthly revision of petrol prices would benefit both dealers and consumers by providing greater predictability and operational ease.
Petrol pump owners also called for an immediate review of the existing fuel pricing mechanism, saying the current system requires urgent reform.
Warning of protest action, the association said that if their demands are not accepted, a countrywide strike could be launched.
They added that responsibility for any escalation would lie with the authorities, stating that frequent changes in petrol prices are also creating public uncertainty.
