The government on Wednesday slashed the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs32.63 per liter following what it described as “successful” talks with oil refineries, while increasing the price of petrol by Rs2.97 per liter.
Under the revised rates, petrol will be sold at Rs337.51 per liter and HSD at Rs363.06 per liter. The government continues to impose Rs114 per liter in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs100 per liter on diesel.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the revised prices will take effect from Thursday, August 20.
The new rates will remain in effect until the next review, as the government continues to revise fuel prices in line with fluctuations in international oil markets and other cost factors.
In the previous review on Tuesday, the government had raised the price of HSD by Rs5.27 per liter and petrol by Rs3.34 per liter.
