PESHAWAR: The Peshawar district administration has imposed a complete ban on the sale and purchase of baaja (toy horn), toy pistols and firecrackers ahead of Independence Day celebrations, citing public safety and the need to maintain law and order.
The restrictions have been imposed under Section 144 and will remain in force until August 15, according to a notification issued by the district administration.
Under the measures, the administration has also prohibited aerial firing, fireworks, the sale and use of *baaj* and firecrackers, as well as one-wheeling across the district.
The administration warned that legal action would be taken against individuals found violating the restrictions.
Officials particularly urged young people to refrain from dangerous activities such as one-wheeling, warning that such stunts could result in serious accidents and endanger both participants and other citizens.
The district administration called on citizens to celebrate Independence Day responsibly and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure a peaceful environment during the festivities.
The ban on baaja comes amid recurring public complaints over its use during Independence Day celebrations, when its loud and often sudden sound can cause considerable disturbance to residents.
