Amid a series of recent animal abuse incidents in Pakistan, a group of people in Bahawalpur performed a heart-touching act of kindness by rescuing a camel stuck in mud.
The video of the rescue, circulating on social media, shows the group helping the distressed camel in the Qila Darawar desert, Bahawalpur, Punjab.
This act has been widely praised by social media users, especially given the recent cases of animal cruelty in Sindh and Punjab. On June 15, a feudal lord in Sanghar, along with six employees, tortured a camel and severed its leg with a sharp tool. The 8-month-old camel calf was then moved to Karachi for treatment at CDRS Benji, a local non-governmental organization (NGO). Just days later, on June 29, a female camel was found dead in Umerkot, Sindh, with all four limbs amputated.
It should be noted that cruelty to animals, particularly donkeys, horses, and mules, is widespread in Pakistan. These animals are often overworked, underfed, and harshly beaten by their owners. The neglect by both the government and the public has worsened the situation, prompting even foreign nations to intervene.
