The government has significantly extended the working hours of passport offices, with eight major regional passport offices across the country set to operate in double shifts from Monday to Friday.
According to a notification, the passport offices will remain open until midnight to facilitate citizens seeking passport-related services.
Under the new schedule, the first shift will operate from 8am to 4pm, while the second shift will continue from 4pm to 12 midnight.
The double-shift system has been implemented from August 20, 2026, with the aim of providing citizens with additional hours to access passport-related facilities.
The initiative is expected to improve access to passport services and reduce difficulties faced by citizens during regular office hours.
