ISLAMABAD: A crucial meeting of parliamentary leaders and Senators, called by NA Speaker Asad Qaiser, in which they were to be briefed by military officials on national security has been postponed.
The National Assembly (NA) Secretariat, in a tweet, said, “The session of parliamentary leaders in the National Assembly and Senate under National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Nov 11 has been postponed.”

“There would have been a briefing on national security in the session. The NA Secretariat has issued a notification of postponement of the session,” NA Secretariat added.
According to a local newspaper, the main objective of the briefing was to make an effort to develop a national consensus on granting provisional provincial status” to Gilgit-Baltistan.
However, the country’s two major opposition parties — the PML-N and the PPP — declared that they had not yet decided about participation in the briefing. The opposition earlier announced to boycott any meeting under the NA speaker.
The list of those invited for the briefing contained Shah Mahmood Qureshi, PML-N’s Khawaja Asif, PPP’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, MMA’s Asad Mahmood and PML-Q’s Tariq Bashir Cheema.
Furthermore, BNP-M’s Akhtar Mengal, MQM’s Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and BAP’s Khalid Hussain Mangi had also been invited.
