ISLAMABAD: Renowned pharmacist, Dr AQ Javed Iqbal succumbed to the deadly novel coronavirus in Islamabad days after battling for his life on the ventilator.
Dr AQ Javed Iqbal was fighting the pandemic, however, he could not survive and lost his life. The funeral prayer of the deceased will be offered in Islamabad today and will be laid to rest at the F-8 graveyard.
During his medical career, Dr Iqbal remained at many key posts in the health ministry and Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP). He also severed as vice president of the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan.
Till now 155 doctors have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in Pakistan, according to the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA). During the second wave which started in November, 45 doctors have lost their lives (16 in Punjab, 14 in Sindh, 13 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two in Azad Jammu and Kashmir).
So for, Pakistan has reported 53 deaths by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases surged to 554,474 in the last 24 hours.

Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.
Up till now 250,648, coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 160,580 in Punjab 68,338 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 41,934 in Islamabad, 18,859 in Balochistan, 9,199 in Azad Kashmir and 4,916 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Moreover, 4,880 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 4,087 in Sindh, 1,952 in KP, 478 in Islamabad, 272 in Azad Kashmir, 196 in Balochistan, and 102 in GB.
