DALLAS: The 2009 champion Pakistan cricket team will begin their journey in the 2024 T20 World Cup against the hosts USA in Dallas today, the match will start at 8:30 pm Pakistan time.
On June 9, Pakistan will face arch-rivals India in New York, and on June 11, they will face Canada at the same venue.
The final match of the first round will be against Ireland in Florida on June 16. If Pakistan qualifies for the Super Eight stage, its three matches will be played in Antigua and Barbados from June 19 to 23.
It may be recalled that national team captain Babar was also the captain when Pakistan won five matches in a row before losing to Australia in the second semi-final of the 2021 event in the UAE.
Apart from Babar, the 2022 tournament included Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Muhammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Shadab Khan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
The team is bolstered by the return of Mohammad Amir (also a member of the 2009 winning squad) and Imad Wasim, who last played in the T20 World Cup in 2016 and 2021 respectively.
Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saeem Ayub, and Usman Khan are the five players who will be seen at this level for the first time.
Imad Wasim will not be available for selection for the opening match as he has been advised rest by the PCB medical team.
Ahead of the fourth T20I against England late last month, Imad injured his right rib cage while batting in the nets and was ruled out of the match as a result. He is expected to be available for selection for the June 9 match against India in New York.
