KARACHI: Persistent internet disruptions and slow connectivity across Pakistan have raised concerns over the future of the country’s digital ambitions, with freelancers, students and online businesses among those worst affected by the prolonged issues.
Users in various cities have continued to report sluggish browsing speeds, interrupted connections and difficulties in uploading or downloading content on social media and messaging applications.
The ongoing slowdown has significantly impacted individuals and businesses dependent on stable internet services, particularly freelancers, e-commerce operators and digital entrepreneurs whose work relies on uninterrupted online access.
Technology experts have warned that the deteriorating internet situation could deal a serious blow to Pakistan’s growing digital economy, which has increasingly depended on remote work, online trade and information technology exports in recent years.
Concerns have also been raised that continued connectivity problems may push skilled professionals and IT-related businesses to consider shifting operations abroad in search of more reliable digital infrastructure.
Telecommunication authorities and internet service providers have previously linked internet disruptions to technical faults in submarine cables, infrastructure limitations, power outages and rising internet traffic.
The recurring problems have also triggered criticism from internet users, many of whom say unreliable connectivity is disrupting routine communication, online education and business activities across the country.
