Jan is a medical student but she wanted to continue her career in arts. “This is my passion and I see something in it that’s more appealing than anything else.”
Being part of a family of artists, she got the longing for art from her father Talib Jan, brother Kamran Khan and other poets, sculptors and musicians of the family.
During an interview, Almas said it took 10 days to complete the portrait as “it is not an easy task to perfectly portray with a cotton thread…It takes all my attention”.
She made many portraits of the famous personalities on the flour stainer including Abdul Sattar Edhi, Benazir Bhutto, Sardar Ali Takkar, Hamid Karzai, and many others. She has gifted some of her artwork to renowned people.
Regarding the art, she said, “I have never attended any institute. I wanted to do something new and finally, I got the idea of portraying flour strainers,” Almas said.
Almas is one of the heroes of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) segment ‘Humare Heroes’. In recognition of her distinctive work, she was invited to the National Stadium Karachi where she was introduced to the world.
Being a confident girl from the small town of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, she aspires to set up her own studio where she can teach other girls. “I don’t think anyone in the world can do this fine work,” commented Jan’s brother Kamran who is himself a sculptor.
