QUETTA: In the wake of rising cases of coronavirus in the country, Pakistani authorities have decided to keep its borders with Iran and Afghanistan closed for two more weeks.
According to officials, trade and all other activities at the Taftan border with Iran and Chaman border with Afghanistan will remain halted for two weeks as precautionary measures against the Coronavirus outbreak.
While the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has been asked for a stern and complete screening of pilgrims at the borders.
State Minister of Health of Pakistan Dr Zafar Mirza also said the borders will remain closed in order to thwart the spread of Coronavirus on both sides of the boundary in the best interest of the citizens of the brotherly countries.
Zafar Mirza had confirmed seven more Coronavirus cases of the community transmission of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Pakistan.
The total number of positive cases jumped to 28 from 21 on one the previous day with seven people tested positive at the Taftan border.
The State Minister of Health of Pakistan Dr Zafar Mirza said “Coronavirus cases jumped from 21 to 28 on Friday as seven more people were tested positive for the COVID-19 at Taftan border.
They include a child with Thalassaemia and his female attendant, a person with diabetes and four of his contact persons.” He said that the government had decided to functional only three airports for international flights that will be operated only through Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad airports, he said.
