ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan will host the signing ceremony of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran in Geneva.

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, the prime minister said that “after a dark night of conflict, the sun of peace has risen,” adding that the two countries had announced a permanent end to military operations across all fronts.

He said that despite difficult circumstances, both sides demonstrated patience, restraint, and wisdom throughout the negotiation process, which ultimately led to a breakthrough agreement.

Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan will host the peace agreement ceremony in Geneva, and extended congratulations to the people of Pakistan as well as the international community over what he described as a landmark diplomatic achievement.

He further termed the development not merely a bilateral accord but “a victory of peace and dialogue over war and destruction,” and praised diplomacy for making it possible.

The prime minister also expressed gratitude to political leadership in Pakistan, including PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, acknowledging their support and guidance.

He extended congratulations to former U.S. President Donald Trump, Iran’s leadership, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the Iranian president, as well as all negotiating teams involved in the peace process.

Shehbaz Sharif also appreciated the role of Qatar’s Emir for facilitating the negotiations, and thanked Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkey’s President for their constructive and supportive diplomatic engagement throughout the process.
