LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Friday its plans to host a tri-series involving New Zealand and South Africa in February 2025.
This decision follows a meeting between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the Chairmen of Cricket South Africa (CSA), Mr. Lawson Naidoo, and New Zealand Cricket (NZC), Mr. Roger Twose, as stated by the PCB.
According to the PCB statement, the meeting’s agenda primarily focused on organizing an ODI Tri-series between Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa, scheduled for February 2025 in Pakistan, just before the ICC Champions Trophy.
The statement further noted that the tri-series was finalized and received positive reception from the host country and the respective member boards.
During the meeting, the PCB Chairman extended invitations to Mr. Roger Twose and Mr. Lawson Naidoo to visit Pakistan.
This upcoming tri-series marks a significant event for Pakistan, being the first of its kind to be hosted by the country in the last two decades. The PCB’s last hosting of a tri-series was in October 2004, featuring Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe as the other participating teams.
Expressing enthusiasm, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated, “The Tri-series between Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand will be an exciting event, and it is after a long time that Pakistan will host such a tournament.” Naqvi also expressed gratitude towards the heads of NZC and CSA for their agreement to participate. Additionally, he highlighted Pakistan’s eagerness to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, viewing it as a significant opportunity to welcome the top eight ODI teams to Pakistani soil.
