ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported more than 2,600 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, as the positivity ratio remained above five percent as the situation worsens amid the fourth wave.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported 2,607 cases and 21 deaths in the previous 24-hour period. The national tally of coronavirus cases has reached 989,275 while the death toll stands at 22,781.
The positivity ratio has reached 5.34% in the previous day. There are 2,508 people in critical condition in hospitals across the country. There were 48,816 tests conducted in the previous day leading to the new infections of the deadly virus.
The number of active cases in the country has also increased to 47,331. Overall 919,163 people have recovered from the virus, including 834 in the past day.

Sindh has the highest number of recorded cases which have been gradually rising amid the presence of the Delta variant. Sindh has recorded 355,462 cases and 5,702 deaths so far. The number of active cases in the province have surged to 29,545.
Punjab has recorded 350,259 cases and 10,872 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province has reached 9,761. Islamabad has recorded 84,563 cases and 891 deaths while there are 1,997 active cases in the federal capital.
The number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 134,560 and 4,385 deaths while Balochistan has recorded 29,080 cases and 319 deaths. Gilgit Baltistan had recorded 7,362 cases and 116 deaths while Azad Kashmir has recorded 21,989 cases and 601 deaths.
