ISLAMABAD: The second wave of the pandemic continues to take its toll as 72 more people died of coronavirus in the country during the last twenty-four hours.
According to the latest statistics from the National Command and Control Centre, 3,369 people tested positive during this period after tests of 42,222 people.
With the new figures, the total number of cases has reached 438,425 cases so far ever since the pandemic began earlier this year while the death toll has reached 8,796.
There are still 46,629 active cases in the country while 2,471 people are in critical condition. More than 383,000 people have recovered from the virus including the last 24 hours.
The province of Sindh has the highest number of cases. There have been 194,359 cases recorded so far and 3,149 deaths. There are still 24,719 active cases in the province.
Punjab has recorded 127,212 cases and 3,351 deaths while there are still 8,951 people suffering from the disease. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 52.092 cases, 1463 deaths with 4,763 activities, while Balochistan has 17,737 cases, 175 deaths and 565 active cases.
The Punjab government has imposed a smart lockdown in 13 areas of Lahore, in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus.
The spokesperson of the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department said all shopping malls, restaurants, private and government offices will remain closed during the lockdown.
In case of an emergency, only one person per family may leave the house. However, all kinds of gatherings and meetings have been banned.
