Pakistan Railways has increased the ticket prices for economy class passengers of short distances by 10 to 50 percent, even as fuel prices have recently decreased, a media outlet reported on Tuesday.
The report stated that this decision is set to affect many travelers, particularly on popular routes including Karachi to Hyderabad, Tando Adam, Tando Jam, and Kotri.
Moreover, passengers traveling between Lahore and Sialkot, as well as Narowal, Narang Mandi, and Faisalabad to Rawalpindi, will also need to pay higher fares.
This fare hike follows a recent announcement by railway authorities about a 10 percent reduction in ticket prices for various classes, including Business, AC Sleeper, and Economy.
The timing of the fare increase has raised concerns among citizens already struggling with rising inflation.
On the other hand, a further decrease in fuel prices is expected from October 1st as the crude prices in the international market have further plummeted.
