The Pakistan Navy successfully conducted a test launch of an indigenously developed ship-launched ballistic missile, the Director General Public Relations (DGPR) of the navy said on Tuesday.
According to a press release, the missile is equipped with advanced navigation and maneuverability features and can accurately strike both land and sea targets withing range of 350 kilometers.
The Chief of the Naval Staff, along with senior Pakistan Navy officers and scientists and engineers, attended the test flight, the DGPR said.
President Asif Ali Zardari along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman CJCSC, and service chiefs have congratulated the scientists and engineers on this remarkable achievement.
Earlier in July, the Pakistan Navy also successfully tested FN-6 surface-to-air missiles through its ground-based air defense (GBAD) system. During this exercise, the system correctly engaged airborne targets.
In May, it deployed the warship PNS ASLAT in the Indian Ocean as part of its efforts to ensure that merchant vessels are protected.
It is worth mentioning that the Pakistan Navy contributes to regional security, apart from defending Pakistan’s maritime frontiers.
