The federal government has made it mandatory for all civil servants to declare any foreign citizenship or foreign travel documents held by themselves or their dependents, closing avenues for concealing such information.
According to details, the Establishment Division has issued mandatory declaration forms under the Civil Servants (Foreign Citizenship) Rules, 2026.
The new rules require government employees to disclose information related to foreign citizenship and foreign travel documents.
Civil servants will be required to submit declarations on three separate occasions. They must disclose any foreign citizenship at the time of joining government service and submit an annual declaration thereafter. They will also be required to provide details of any foreign passport, residence permit, or permanent residency card they hold.
The rules further make it compulsory for civil servants to disclose the foreign citizenship status of their dependent family members. In addition, any marriage to a foreign national must be reported, along with evidence of obtaining prior government approval where required.
Government employees must notify the authorities of any changes to their declared information within 90 days.
Under the new regulations, failure to disclose relevant information at the time of appointment may result in the cancellation of employment. Submitting false or misleading declarations may also lead to legal and departmental disciplinary action.
