The government of Pakistan has formally lodged a complaint with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) management over false information regarding the operation conducted by law-enforcement agencies against PTI protesters at Islamabad’s Red Zone on the night between November 26 and November 27, a private TV channel reported on Monday.
According to the reports, Pakistan’s complaint emphasized the need for objective reporting and the importance of upholding journalistic values. The complaint also stressed that the media has a key role to play in ensuring transparency and accountability.
It should be noted that during its coverage of the PTI protest, the BBC reported that dozens of people had died due to firing. The Pakistani government stated, “These figures, which the news channel provided in its three reports, were completely baseless and misleading.” The government has asked the BBC to admit its mistake and issue a correction.
It is also worth noting that PTI leaders had claimed a large number of casualties during the police crackdown on the protesters, but they failed to provide evidence to support their claims.
