ISLAMABAD: United Nations member countries have submitted 340 proposals to improve the human rights situation in Pakistan, which have been received by the federal government.
According to details, the United Nations member states have identified real and alleged violations of human rights in the fourth consecutive report. The government decided to send the report to the Human Rights Council while indicating to review the proposals.
The report for the observance of human rights was prepared by the working group of the Human Rights Council, while the group intends to include Pakistan’s response to the recommendations in the outcome report during the 53rd session of the Human Rights Council, while the questions for Pakistan were prepared by the member countries.
A preliminary list of questions was prepared by countries including Portugal, Panama, Germany, and Belgium and sent to Pakistan through a delegation, for which statements from 122 delegations have been recorded. Canada suggested Pakistan ensure the registration of women voters.
The issue of enforced disappearances in Pakistan reached the United Nations. Several countries say that Pakistan should protect its citizens from enforced disappearance, ratify the international convention and make it part of its applicable law. Luxembourg suggested that Pakistan should abolish the death penalty.
Other countries, including Poland and Australia, have made proposals to Pakistan to fully respect freedom of religion or belief, remove provisions that discriminate against minorities, and refrain from imposing unnecessary restrictions on journalists, to which the then government responded.
