Pakistan first female architect’s plan for cheap, safe and eco-friendly houses for flood victims

Yasmin Lari is Pakistan’s first woman architect. She has designed many Pakistan’s most important and beautiful buildings, including the landmark FTC Building in Karachi.

She is the elder sister of Nasreen Jalil, a well-known female politician of Karachi. The services of Yasmin Lari in the field of construction spans half a century. She inherited this art from his father, which he further improved through his professional higher education and made a name for himself and brought the country to global prominence.

Yasmin Lari has been strongly against the destruction of the natural environment in the name of construction for some time now and shie is now focusing on building eco-friendly houses instead of growing a concrete jungle.

In this year (2022), there was a devastating flood in Pakistan, the nerve-wracking effects of which the people of the affected areas have not been able to escape till now. The victims include millions of people whose homes have been destroyed by floods.

Yasmeen Lari has started a project to build one million eco-friendly houses under her organization “Heritage Foundation” for such displaced flood victims.

Lari’s project is unique as it is not only eco-friendly but also safe and very affordable. During in an interview with MM News, Pakistan’s renowned female architect highlighted the main features of this important project.

Yasmin Lari said that no concrete, cement or structural bar will be used in her project. This project is based on bamboo timber, with which she expertly designs a safe and eco-friendly home.

According to Yasmin Lari, their plan is to also involve the flood affectees in the process. They will also work in the construction of their houses and at the same time they will be taught this art by the Heritage Foundation.

Yasmin Lari said that philanthropists can join in this project not in the form of money, but in the form of providing the necessary items using in building of this kind of houses

She is hopeful that through this project, she will not only be able to provide the best shelters to the victims, but will also be able to avoid flood disasters in the future.
