Pakistan declared most improved country in nuclear security

WASHINGTON: Pakistani Ambassador to the United States, Asad Majeed Khan has welcomed the Nuclear Threat Initiative index for the year 2020 that categorized Pakistan as the most improved country.
Taking to Twitter, Asad Majeed Khan said that Pakistan welcomes that Nuclear Threat Initiative on weapons of mass destruction has categorized Pakistan as the most improved country for nuclear security measures in its Nuclear Security Index 2020.

The tweet came after a leading US non-proliferation watchdog named Nuclear Threat Initiative (NIT) ranked Pakistan as the most improved in the security of those countries holding nuclear materials.
As per details, in its Nuclear Security Index released for the year 2020, the NTI said that the country is the most improved among countries with materials in 2020, which improved its overall score by adopting new on-site physical protection and cybersecurity regulations, improving insider threat protection measures, and more.

As per the report, Pakistan’s overall score improved by seven points. Pakistan’s measures to protect its nuclear assets have overtaken India.
Pakistan scored 47 points against India’s 41. The country ranks 33rd and India rank 38th out of 47 in terms of nuclear installation protection. The Nuclear Threat Initiative further said that Pakistan’s score improvement for regulatory measures is the second-largest improvement for regulations in the Index since 2012.
