Pakistan Army pays tribute to Major Akram on martyrdom anniversary

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army has paid tribute to 1971 war hero Major Muhammad Akram on his 49th martyrdom anniversary being observed today.

The Inter-Services Public Relations released a statement to pay tribute to Major Muhammad Akram for his supreme sacrifice and displaying valour against all odds.

Major Akram heroically repulsed innumerable attacks by the enemy inflicting heavy losses in the battle of Hilli. “Such exemplary courage is hallmark of defenders of motherland,” said the military’s press wing.

He was born on 4th April 1938 in a small village named Dinga near Kharian. He joined Pakistan Army as a non-commissioned officer and was later promoted as Secong Lieutenant in Frontier Force Regiment.

He participated in the 1965 Indo-Pak September War as a captain where he led several successful military operations against the Indian forces.

Major Akram presented the supreme sacrifice in the 1971 war with India while defending the motherland in Zafarwal sector. He was posthumously awarded the highest military award Nishan-e-Haider for his valiant and courageous actions.
