ISLAMABAD: Cricket enthusiasts across India, Pakistan, the United States, and South Africa are in for a treat as the iconic India-Pakistan T20 World Cup clash on June 9 will be showcased in ten different fan parks within their respective countries, announced the International Cricket Council (ICC) this week.
The ICC has disclosed that this year’s World Cup matches will be aired in fan parks, where spectators can witness the action live on giant screens amidst live entertainment featuring DJs, food and beverage stalls, cricket ambassadors, and family-oriented activities. In total, 23 matches will be showcased across 16 fan parks spanning five countries next month.
The intense political tensions between nuclear-armed neighbors India and Pakistan have made their cricket encounters a global spectacle, eagerly anticipated by millions of fans worldwide. Diplomatic rifts between the two nations have restricted their cricket matches to neutral venues, exclusively during international tournaments. The absence of bilateral series between them has persisted for several years.
Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, will lead his team against Rohit Sharma’s India on June 9 in New York, where both Group A teams will face off in the ICC T20 World Cup fixture. The match will be aired in numerous fan parks globally, as stated by the ICC.
“Ten distinct fan parks will broadcast the Group A clash between India and Pakistan, including Cedar Creek Park in Seaford, New York, hosted by Nassau County, the Indira Gandhi Indoor Arena in New Delhi, India, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan,” the ICC noted in a statement on Saturday.
Among the standout venues in New York City is the Oculus World Trade Center, where the fan park will showcase 18 matches on ten different dates, culminating with the highly anticipated final on June 29.
