ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has arrived in Karachi on Tuesday on a one-day visit to discuss various issues, including the coronavirus pandemic, with political stakeholders in Sindh.
During his visit to Karachi, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah will also call on the prime minister.
He will also meet provincial lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and coalition parties Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA).
The prime minister will chair a high-level session on the situation regarding the coronavirus pandemic in the city and the steps taken by the provincial government to stem the deadly contagion. The meeting will also discuss a range of other issues and performance of the Sindh government.
PM Imran Khan is also expected to meet prominent businessmen and industrialists during his visit. The prime minister is scheduled to visit Larkana tomorrow on Wednesday where he will visit Ehsaas centre and meet a delegation of the GDA.
During the visit to Larkana, the prime minister is also expected to meet healthcare workers. He is also scheduled to meet the party’s provincial leadership in Sindh.
The prime minister yesterday visited Lahore where he discussed important provincial issues, including the coronavirus, and reviewed the performance of the ministers.
While talking to media after chairing a meeting in Lahore, the prime minister said that even the richest countries are not imposing a complete COVID-19 lockdown, so how can a country like Pakistan, which is already coping with a weak economy could. “A complete lockdown puts all the burden on the weaker sections,” according to him.
PM Imran Khan further asserted said that despite the rapid spread of coronavirus in the country, Pakistan could not afford a complete lockdown.
